When it's too cold or dark for a long walk, a bored dog can become a destructive dog. Mental stimulation is just as tiring as physical exercise. Here are some of our favourite fun indoor games to keep your dog entertained this winter.
1. The Shell Game
Place a high-value treat under one of three cups. Shuffle the cups around and encourage your dog to find the treat. This game is fantastic for their problem-solving skills.
2. Hide-and-Seek
A classic for a reason! Have your dog stay while you hide in another room. Call them and reward them with praise and a treat when they find you.
3. Invest in Puzzle Toys
Interactive dog toys are a game-changer for beating boredom. Food-dispensing puzzles, snuffle mats, and lick mats require your dog to think, sniff, and work for their food, providing hours of mental enrichment.
4. Build an Indoor Obstacle Course
Use pillows, blankets, and boxes to create a simple agility course. Guide your dog to crawl under, jump over, and weave through the obstacles.
5. Scent Work: "Find It"
Tap into your dog's most powerful sense: their nose! Have them stay while you hide treats around a room. Then, release them with a "Find it!" command and watch them go to work.
